Projects

I want you to see what I see. That’s why I make photos. Slow down. Pay attention. Receive what comes.

I want my photos to be a reminder that paying attention is a powerful and hospitable act.

Macro photography helps me to slow down and look closely. Beauty lies hidden within a flower.

I have not engaged in this mode of making photos for many years. It is my newest project. I will post more images here, hoping that you can see my progress. The process involves photo stacking. That means I take multiple images of one flower at different focal lengths. This means every image has one element in focus and others that are not. These images combine five to 25 photos each. I combine the images in Photoshop to produce one sharp image.

Several years ago, while the Huguenot Bridge over the James River in Richmond, Virginia, was being torn down and a new one built, I spent time photographing the beauty of scars and scratches, pieces and patterns. Here are a few photos from that project, proof that beauty resides all around us. We can see it when we slow down and look closely.
